Retreat with Leela

Founder and director of SCA

Friday 21 - Sunday 23 April 2006

Non-sectarian, Western Buddhism

Discover the Buddha’s Path to happiness, freedom and peace of mind. All beings are alike in that everybody wants happiness and nobody wants suffering. Yet few understand the true causes of happiness, that are cultivated within and do not depend on outer circumstances. This retreat will provide an overview of the Buddha’s teachings. Explore the Buddha’s philosophy on the nature of mind, ignorance and enlightenment, karma, rebirth, the transforming power of loving-kindness and compassion, the liberating power of wisdom, Ultimate reality, and more. You will learn practices and techniques so that you can experience for yourself, how Buddhism’s practical teachings can increase peace and happiness in your life. It might be the best discovery you will ever make.

LEELA has degrees in Law and Psychology. She studied overseas in India, Nepal and France, under Tibetan Buddhist Masters His Holiness the DALAI LAMA and LAMA ZOPA RINPOCHE, and Zen Master Ven THICH NHAT HANH. She is an ordained member of Thich Nhat Hanh’s Order of Interbeing, and spends time at his Monastery in France every 2nd year. Leela's approach is based on Thich Nhat Hanh’s presentation of Buddhism, which is non-sectarian and very accessible to Westerners. He combines theory and practice in a delightful, engaging and user-friendly way. Leela enjoys combining the more intellectual approach of Tibetan Buddhism with the heart-centered approach of Thich Nhat Hanh.

SAT CHIT ANAND is a Buddhist Centre and Guesthouse in Plettenberg Bay. It is our delight to host meditations, Buddhist teachings and weekend spiritual retreats, which may be attended on a residential or non-residential basis. A retreat is a time to remove oneself from the distractions of the world, and focus on one’s spiritual practice. Traditionally this involves receiving and contemplating teachings, meditating and doing spiritual practices.
